
What if I told you that practicing presence, skill #2 of the 12 Therapeutic Skills*, is like snapping your fingers to magically alter the course of your life for the better at any moment?
This is what I continue to uncover and rediscover, at least. Here are 10 universally true and powerfully good nuggets I've learned about the power of presence over the past 20 years:
Next to patience, presence is your greatest life power.
If patience is the beat that helps us see the good but hidden path, then presence is the hidden path.
Presence leads us back inside and back home to ourselves, and compassion, if we choose it, is the guide that gets us to go.
Patience, presence and self compassion are the trifecta of skills that will lead you to the truth about who you are, and the origin of your worth and belonging.
Presence is the path away from self-critical, shameful, and victimizing thoughts tied to the past, as well as anxious and unrealistic thoughts about the future.
Presence is the path towards revealing and reaffirming intrinsic worth and a sense of unconditional belonging as humans.
Presence leads to the profound inner realization that our worth, our belonging, our belovedness are not things to be earned; they are inherent in our being, not in our doing.
Presence, once it leads us to know our value, to know our worth, keeps calling us to live intentionally and proactively vs. impulsively & reactively.
Practicing presence is how we discover what we truly value, and what we value reveals our values.
Presence teaches us to value ourselves by becoming who we truly are through self acceptance, forgiving, loving and caring for this one wild and precious chance to be human and to be alive.
